Instructor Resources

Interested in becoming an instructor for an IAA-sponsored class or workshop? We have opportunities for teaching different media and art topics!

We have three types of programs:
1. private artist workshops, usually on Saturdays
2. free Meetup sessions on Friday nights
3. monthly classes lasting 3 or 4 weeks on Thursday nights.

Private artist workshops: IAA has openings for private artist workshops beginning in August for all Saturdays except the last Saturday of the month, which is reserved for exhibits’ strike & hang. Your choice of media or topics. Usual hours are 10-2 or 10-4 or later.  Please send us your request to reserve a time ASAP as we may have to double-check with the Parks dept. Email info@irvingart.org.

Supplies are required – IAA does not provide art materials. Instructors may provide supplies and charge a materials fee or require students to bring their own supplies.

Note that there is a $5 fee per student taking the workshop payable to IAA. You can of course charge the students whatever you wish, but IAA is asking instructors to handle their own registrations, although we will, of course, publicize the workshops on our website, social media, etc. Note that you need to plan on a two-month lead time so that we will have time for publicity.

Free Meetup Open Art sessions: If you are interested in volunteering to teach a free Friday night meetup session, email info@irvingart.org. Your choice of topic or media. Supplies are required – IAA does not provide art materials. Instructors may provide supplies and charge a materials fee or require students to bring their own supplies. The free mini-workshops are a perfect opportunity for new instructors to hone their teaching skills. The mini-workshops typically start at 7 pm, with doors opening at 6:30 pm.

Monthly classes on Thursday nights: In the fall we will be restarting the monthly Thursday night classes. Let us know if you are interested in teaching a monthly class and what topic. Most of these will be basic classes and will last 3 or 4 sessions for a month. We do have a budget for paying instructors, but of course, any volunteers would be greatly appreciated!

Send your requests to info@irvingart.org. Include your artist CV or teaching experience, a description of the class, plus some images of your work, and when you wish to teach.

Registration and Fee policies effective August 2020

All students must be preregistered, no walk-ins allowed. Adults only, age 17+.

For Meetup workshops (usually Friday evenings), a donation of $5 per student (nonmembers) is requested, which goes to IAA. The instructor may charge a small materials fee also, but instruction should be free.

After securing a date for your class or workshop, use the Web/Marketing Request form below to provide the Communications team with the information needed to publicize the event.

In addition please include 1-3 images you would like to use or appropriate images will be found by the graphic designer. Images should be your own or copyright free. Use the form below or email to webcommunications@irvingartassociation.org.
