Instructor Resources

Interested in becoming an instructor for an IAA-sponsored class or workshop? We have opportunities for teaching different media and art topics!

We have three types of programs:
1. private artist workshops, usually on Saturdays or during Gallery hours
2. free Meetup sessions on Friday nights
3. monthly classes lasting 3 or 4 weeks on Thursday nights.

Private artist workshops: IAA has openings for private artist workshops for all Saturdays except for reception days, usually the 2nd or 3rd Saturday, and Exhibit Strike/HangDay, usually the last Saturday of the month. Private artist workshops can also be held during Gallery hours.

Your choice of media or topics. Usual hours are 10-2, 10-4, or 2-4.  Any other date may be reserved, but please send us your request to reserve a time ASAP as we may have to double-check with the Parks dept. Email workshops@irvingartassociation.org or info@irvingart.org.

Supplies are required – IAA does not provide art materials. Instructors may provide supplies and charge a materials fee or require students to bring their own supplies.

Note that there is a $5 fee per student taking the workshop payable to IAA. You can of course charge the students whatever you wish, but IAA asks instructors to handle their own registrations, although we will, of course, publicize the workshops on our website, social media, etc. Note that you need to plan on a two-month lead time so that we will have time for publicity. We operate on volunteers, so if you can’t handle registration, please consider giving a free Meetup session or applying to teach an IAA-sponsored monthly classes.

Free Meetup Open Art sessions: If you are interested in volunteering to teach a free Friday night meetup session, email info@irvingart.org. Your choice of topic or media. Supplies are required – IAA does not provide art materials. Instructors may provide supplies and charge a materials fee or require students to bring their own supplies. The free mini-workshops are a perfect opportunity for new instructors to hone their teaching skills. The mini-workshops typically start at 7 pm, with doors opening at 6:30 pm.

Your choice of media or topics. Usual hours are 10-2, 10-4, or 2-4.  Any other date may be reserved, but please send us your request to reserve a time ASAP as we may have to double-check with the Parks dept.

Monthly classes on Thursday nights: Let us know if you are interested in teaching a monthly class and what topic. Most of these will be basic classes and will last 3 or 4 sessions for a month. We do have a budget for paying instructors, but of course, any volunteers would be greatly appreciated!
