Jody Martin Solo Exhibit: WRAPPED IN DREAMS;
EXPLORING THE DREAMS OF SMALL TOWN TEXAS
March 6 – 31, 2018
RECEPTION Sunday, March 11, 2-4pm
As I travel the highways and back roads of my home state, I’m delighted and inspired by what I see. I get glimpses of people’s dreams in the way they live, what they’re busy doing, and how they choose to go about being Texans. From the yard art they cherish to the rusty old pickups that take them back to the dreams of yesterday, their surroundings hint of their spirit. Their faces reflect hardship and hope, pride and playfulness, duty and dreams. Join me in exploring the dreams of small town Texas!
About the Artist:
Born in Lubbock, Texas, Jody is the daughter of the late Conny Martin, artist, and C.B. Martin, builder, photographer, and watercolorist. Always passionate about art, Jody never doubted that she would become an artist. She received her degree in art at Abilene Christian University, and went on to study painting under Daniel Greene of New York, Emily Guthrie Smith and Ruth Tears of Fort Worth. She values most the education she got from her mother, under whose tutelage, she learned classical drawing and contemporary design.
After college, Jody moved to Dallas and began work as a studio artist, doing primarily commissioned paintings and drawings. She now lives in Carrollton, Texas.
During the ‘90s Jody worked as a muralist and was a member of the Decorative Artisans’ Guild. She worked mostly with interior designers including Rutherford’s Design Studio of Dallas.
Her love of teaching led her to accept an opportunity with the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD where she taught art from 1999 to 2015. She loved helping her students learn to see the world through artists’ eyes, and she was passionate about teaching them to believe in themselves and to create from their hearts. She retired in June of 2015 and is now painting full time.
Jody works in different media, but prefers oils and pastels. Her subject matter varies as she attempts to capture the beauty of a moment or the soul beneath a face!
